Please excuse the typos and punctuation mistakes. We have been a bit sickly around here and I just didn't have the strength to go back and fix them.

Fairfax Family Photographer -Week 3

So here is week three's submission for Project 52. The theme this week was "Shades of Gray". It was my goal to submit a color photograph, meaning one that I didn't convert to black and white, that showed the range of blacks and grays. I had to look no further than my car that is a dingy, horribly dirty color of gray right now because of all the salt and sand that they put on the roads in preparation for snow. Can you guess what part of the car this is?

See you next Friday!

Vienna, VA Family Photographer - Sick

Well I knew we had dodged the bullet far to long. With our little one starting pre-school this year I knew that we would eventually have to deal with the parade of germs and sickness that seem to plague all children when they get thrown into the petri dish of the classroom. The germ pool has finally reached our home and seems very reluctant to leave, no matter how much lysol, clorox, and soap I throw at it.

So here we sit with our very first ear infection ever, both adults coming down with colds and a little one that hasn't slept through the night for over a week. (I dealt fine with it during the newborn stage, am I that much older now that I can't function on 4 hours of interrupted sleep a night? Wait, don't answer that.) Mommy and Daddy are tired. But there is light at the end of the dark tunnel here, antibiotics, numbing drops, motrin and a morning nap. We will prevail.

Sleep well little one, I hope your body is quickly killing whatever is causing all this mayhem.

Northern Virginia Newborn Photographer - Sleepy!

My first session of 2011 was with this sweet little one. She made is so simple by just sleeping the time away. I would move her around, change her hat or flower, roll her around and she really didn't act like it bothered her at all. It made my job so very easy.

Thanks for letting me hang out with you for the day. It was great meeting the whole family.

How fun is this ruffle blanket? I couldn't wait to use it.

Oh to have this gorgeous skin again!

I love these ruffle bloomers and matching socks!

Big brother was so great at holding her.

A dreamy little shot as I looked at her through her crib rails.

If she gets 20 comments on this post, I will give her mom and dad a really great gift from her session. But play fair, only one comment per person please!

Northern Virginia Photographer - Sad

Here we are at week 2 of my Project 52 submissions. This week was really hard for me. The theme was to interpret a song. The reason I found it so difficult was that I had a new song that I wanted to interpret every 30 seconds. As a singer and musician in my other life I have a song for everything. But it ended up that this simple little picture was what I decided to settle on.

Our poor Christmas tree sitting out on the curb. Bare, lonely and the official indication that the holiday season is over and winter is here for at least two more months. UGH!

So my song is "Little Christmas Tree" performed by the Jackson 5.

Little Christmas Tree
Looking sort of sad and lonely, just like me
No one seems to care
They all went away
and left it standing there
All alone on Christmas Eve

See you next week for Number 3.

Vienna Virginia Photographer - Frames! (and a sale!)

Are these not the cutest frames EVER?!?!

Photobucket

I get asked all the time about framing the photos that I take, and honestly, that is something that I have never really wanted to get into. I am much more inclined to suggest to my clients to get a stand-out or Canvas Gallery wrap. I mean, who wants a frame when it just takes up real estate from a really great picture? But after seeing these frames I totally changed my tune. I love these and am so excited to be offering them to my clients.

If you would like some of this cuteness for your pictures, I would be happy to help you select one or a few for your walls. And because this is a totally new thing for me, all of them will be 10% off the regular price until January 31st.

Northern Virginia Photographer - Number One

Every year we photographers are prompted to start what is known in our business "The 365". That means we gather up our camera and take at least one picture a day and post it either on flickr, facebook or other source so others can see. I am sure that all of the people who start this project have very sincere thoughts of finishing it, but I know for a fact that I NEVER would be able to keep up. In fact, I do not know of one person finished it last year.

This year I think we all got a little more realistic and a new challenge was put out there by many mentors and vendors in the field. Enter "Project 52". The new and modified "Project 52" is something that I think I could actually follow through on. The one I joined is going to give a particular theme each week that we have to try and incorporate into our picture we submit. We don't win any money, it is just a change to stretch our creativity and be inspired by others interpretation of the same theme.

This week the theme is "something around the house". As you can probably tell, that is a very broad theme. It could be anything from a Tylenol bottle to a child sleeping, and everything in between. As I was contemplating what I wanted to photograph for the project I had an itch to get my macro lens out and put it to work. Poor little thing has been sitting in my camera bag for almost 3 months just waiting to be put to good use.

So here is it. I'm putting it out there for the world to see and keep me accountable. This is today's "Friday 52" Number 1.

And a few others I took at the same time just to make it more interesting.
