Northern Virginia Photographer - The Eyes Have It

About a week ago I did something that I had thought about for several years. I had Lasik Eye Surgery. I have been wearing glasses or contacts every since I was 9 years old and considering I just turned *Ahem* 41 years old, that is a long time. I'm not sure why it took me so long to have it done, I had been hearing for years that it was great, safe, and with very low risk. Yes, people have had issues with the procedure but that was not what kept me away. It was the simple fact that I just couldn't get over that they would be touching my actual eyeball with a laser AND I would have to be AWAKE the whole time. I mean, Who does that? Just the thought of it, grosses me out and totally gives me the heebie jeebies.

Well, I finally got brave and decided to take the leap and have it done. Let me tell you - it is the best money I have ever spent on myself. My vision is now 20/15, better than 20/20 and I just couldn't be happier with the results.

It has been just over a week and old habits are hard to break. I still reach for my glasses first thing in the morning. I still can't get used to the fact that I can watch TV in bed and not have to take them off or go take my contacts out to fall asleep. I feel like something is missing off my face most of the time. I know all those things will fade with time but it is something that is taking a little bit to get used to.

But for now, good bye old friends. Thank you for your service for so long but you are no longer needed here.

Northern Virginia Photographer - Snowmaggedon!

We have had snow, snow and more snow around here. Two blizzards in one week has crippled the Metropolitan DC area. The kids haven't been in school for two weeks and moms are going CRAZY!!!! Luckily for me it has been pretty much life as usual around here. Except for the bonus of having a husband that gets to stay home when the Federal Government is closed, we are doing fine.

AND who knew that we would have a little one that absolutely LOVES going out in the snow? As soon as we go out she greets it like a long lost friend. Literally falling down into it as if to give it a big hug, kiss and an occasional lick. I mean isn't that how we all great our long lost friends. :)

Here are some pictures that I have taken over the past two weeks. I hope you are staying nice and warm wherever you are.

This is the snow on the railing of our deck as it was starting to fall off. We measured almost 30 inches of snow out there at one point and that was before approximately another 6-8 inches fell.

This is a tree that I could not stop looking at. I love the harsh look of all the snow caked on the branches.

Our Snow Bunny! These were taken last week when the snow was much easier to walk through.

Northern Virginia Photographer - So New

Today I had the pleasure of having this little guy in my studio. Now I have to admit, I am not usually one to do too many sessions in my studio. I love the idea of capturing a family in their own environment. It makes for a nice relaxed atmosphere where people can be themselves and I can catch those great candid moments that just don't happen anywhere else. Well, not sure if you have heard, but we are having quite the weather around here and we had to squeeze this in between snow storms before this sweet little guy got to old.

So mom and dad where troopers and bundled him up and drove over to my house where I have my little studio in the basement. He arrived ready to sleep and was such a good sport about us moving him around into different positions. We discovered that as long as he was kept nice and warm, he really didn't let anything bother him. You see, newborns like it warm, very warm. Usually for these sessions I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt because the heat is cranked up HIGH. This was no exception. Add to that studio lights, and in no time at all the baby was comfy as can be but we were all about to fall over from the heat. I'm glad to report that all the adults survived and I was able to capture some sweet shots of Mr. "O".

Northern Virginia Photographer - LIttle Heroes

Photobucket

I am excited to announce that I have been chosen as a photographer for The Littlest Heroes Project. This is a non-profit group of photographers that provides photo sessions for families who have a child from infant to age 18 with a disability, serious illness or organizations serving these children. More information can be found on the website for the project.

If you are someone who would qualify for such a session or you know of someone who would, please refer them to this website. There are many wonderful photographers who are volunteering their time and talents to this cause.

I am very excited about this and am looking forward to meeting many of the Little Heroes!
