Afternoon Fun {Dorie Howell Kids}

This afternoon I had the pleasure of hanging out with these two sweet kids. They were just as agreeable as can be and let me drag them all over one of our local gardens on an incredibly hot afternoon. Mom asked as soon as I got there if we could try to stay in the shade. Of course, I agreed as I am the first one to run into an air conditioned building as soon as it gets over 70 degrees. "Miss J" was ready with all her wardrobe changes and "Little J" just smiled and went with the flow. Thanks for a great afternoon, enjoy your sneak peek.

I could not let the afternoon go by without getting a great shot of "Miss J's" eyes. Watch out Dad, she is going to be a heartbreaker!

Mommy and Me {Dorie Howell Families}

Are you a mom? How many of us hide from the camera as soon as we see one because of various reasons? It is so easy to get behind one, rather than stand in front of one, at least for most of us. But I came to the realization a few months ago that if I don't start having my picture taken, my daughter will not have any visual record of her mom during her toddler years. What I see when I look at these pictures is all of my many flaws. What I am hoping that she sees when she looks back on these pictures is a mom that loved her more than words can say. Someone who did the best she could and devoted her time and energy to give her a happy, loving, secure childhood.

What do you see when you look back at pictures of your mom? Her extra weight, messed up hair or unattractive outfit? Or do you see what I want my daughter to see? Take time to get in the picture, don't hide from the camera, make sure your children will have a visual record of you during their childhood.

Mother's Day is fast approaching. When was the last time you had a great photograph taken? A picture that you were proud to give to your family or even put in a frame and display around the house. I have a great special right now for all you moms out there.

Drindl {Dorie Howell Kids}

April has been the month of house guests for us. We will have had guests here for 22 of the 30 days in the month. Our last group (before the current group) came to visit us from Munich, Germany. They had a great time seeing all the great Washington, D.C. sights and they absolutely fell head over heels in love with our little one. Spending time with my husband and I was secondary to watching, playing and just laughing at little Miss S. One of the things they brought over for her was a German Drindl. It is a traditional dress worn in southern Germany and Austria, based on the historical costume of Alpine peasants. We couldn't help ourselves one evening and dressed her up for a photo session in our front yard.

Dinner Light {Dorie Howell Kids}

Sometimes the best pictures are taken by grabbing the camera, subject and going out and standing on the front lawn right before dinner. No special set-up, outfit, or even too much thought, just taking advantage of a few minutes of time to document a fun afternoon. That is what this shot is about. Five minutes before dinner on a Saturday afternoon I looked at Miss M and said, "you want to go take some pictures?" Next thing you know we were out in the front yard standing by a pretty tree having a great time. Capturing life's beautiful little moments. What could be better than that?
